Prof. Dr. Joachim von Zanthier
Curriculum Vitae
I was born on August 30, 1964, in Nuremberg, Germany. From 1986 – 1990, I studied at the Physics Department, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, and in 1990/91 at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, France, where I received my Diploma in Physics (D.E.A. – Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies de Physique Quantique). From 1991 – 1995, I was a graduate student at the University of Paris VI, working as a Ph.D. candidate in the Atom Optics Group of Prof. Alain Aspect at the Institut d’Optique Théorique et Appliquée (IOTA). After receiving my Ph.D. in 1995, I joined the group of Prof. Herbert Walther at the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics, Garching, to work on the Indium ion project (optical frequency standard and quantum phenomena with single trapped Indium ions). From 1996 – 2002, I was „Wissenschaftlicher Assistent“ of Prof. Herbert Walther at the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics and at the Ludwig- Maximilians-University, Munich, and since 2002 “Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter” of Prof. Herbert Walther at the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics and lecturer („Privatdozent“) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich. In 2004, I became “Oberassistent” at the Institute of Optics, Information and Photonics (Max-Planck Research Group) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, where I was appointed associate professor (C3) in December 2004. My current research interest focuses on quantum phenomena, in particular on quantum imaging, the generation and classification of many particle entanglement and the observation of non-classical photon statistics.
